TCS Logistics (Pvt.) Limited comes under the umbrella of TRANZUM enterprises. It is also the sister concern of TCS (Pvt.) Limited, which leads the Pakistani courier industry with offices in UAE, Canada and UK. With a modest start in the transport business in 2002, TCS Logistics soon grew into a total logistics solution provider offering Overland Express, Warehousing & Distribution, Fleet Solutions services.

To maintain this explosive growth and improve the organization’s stability, the company decided to improve operational processes and implement Quality Management System based on ISO 9001.

Approach

Business Beam started the project by an introduction training followed by the assessment of current business practices of the organization. Almost all of the executives and professionals working at the senior or middle level positions were consulted in this process. Based on this assessment, our advisors documented the current business processes.

In the next step, our advisors along with the company representatives reviewed these processes. Interdependencies were highlighted and improvement opportunities to gain operational efficiencies and management controls were identified. Based on these outcomes, the processes were significantly enhanced. Besides the core business functions, processes were defined and enhanced for all the support departments like human resources and information technology.

To ensure sustainable changes, our advisors frequently mentored the process owners and implementers, in all the three cities. Training on conducting Internal Quality Audit (IQA) was provided to the TCS Logistics’ team. Our advisors also lead the first IQA process.

Shirazi Investments (Pvt.) Limited, the parent Company of the Atlas Group Pakistan, was established in 1962. For over four decades, the company has been engaged in equity trading, underwriting, real estate and general trading. Realizing the importance and need of Business Continuity Planning, and being the role model for other group companies, the organization took the initiative for implementing Business Continuity Management.

Approach

Business Beam started the assignment by identifying all the processes in the organization and conducting detailed Business Impact Analysis (BIA). To ensure realistic results from BIA, our advisors conducted training and mentoring sessions for the process owners. With the help of BIA results, our advisors identified processes and resources which were critical to the continuation of its business. They also determined the time the organization can survive if the critical processes and resources failed.

Following BIA, Business Beam performed risk assessment and helped the organization in identifying and prioritizing risks. Based on the risk assessment and the critical processes, our advisors proposed continuity strategies and recommended various solutions against future disastrous situations. After finalizing the strategies and continuity response with the stakeholders, our advisors developed a Business Continuity Plan, and established the Crisis Management Team to derive real business value.

To ensure validity of the BCP, and to improve employee awareness, our advisors also successfully conducted a table-top BCP exercise.

Results

Implementing Business Continuity Management System in an organization is more of a cultural challenge. In case of Shirazi Investments, the management and the employees have now realized the importance and the need for Business Continuity in their rapidly changing environment.

The primary driver for ISMS implementation at Teradata GCC was the concerns of its customers about their systems and data. Customers needed demonstrable assurance of secure and un-interrupted services from the organization.

Business Beam (Pvt.) Limited started the assignment with hands-on training session on ISO 27001 ISMS implementation. Following a scoping and gap analysis, our advisors helped Teradata GCC completing the risk assessment, and developed an effective mechanism for calculating and minimizing levels of risks.

The core objective of this exercise was not limited to the compliance with the ISO 27001 ISMS standard – it also included implementing the standard effectively and inline with the corporate policies. Business Beam developed policies, procedures and guidelines fulfilling these objectives. Business Continuity and IT Disaster Recovery were the key elements of ISMS implementation at Teradata GCC, and a comprehensive continuity plan was also developed.

Since the organization was already ISO 9001 certified, one of the important objectives of this assignment was to integrate the newly defined processes into the existing QMS.
